General PVA Characteristics Hydrofera PVA Sponge is a synthetic sponge primarily composed of polyvinyl alcohol foam. It possesses a three-dimensional open cell structure similar to that of a natural sea sponge. All cells are interconnected and not independent. Advantages of this physical structure include high filtering efficiency, extreme softness, and excellent wicking and retention properties. In addition, Hydrofera's Sponge is produced using gas or air as a pore former which yields a stronger and cleaner foam than those foams which use starch or other support pore formers. Hydrofera's proprietary process also allows it to control pore size and structure, wicking rate, surface and core density, and other properties to meet specific customer needs. Markets & Applications New applications for Hydrofera Sponge are being discovered each day and are only limited by our collective imagination. Currently, Hydrofera product is used in a number of medical specialties including ENT, Ophthalmic, OBGYN, Orthopedic, General Surgery, Drug Delivery, Wound Care, Diagnostics, Veterinary, and Biofiltration. Hydrofera's Hybrid PVA Sponge is used in the Industrial Cleaning and the Semiconductor Markets. Properties PVA sponge can absorb up to 25 times its weight in water. When hydrated it becomes flexible and impressively soft while remaining durable and long lasting. PVA sponge exhibits mechanical strength and abrasion resistance properties equal to or greater than any other synthetic or natural sponge material. • Extremely Hydrophilic
