How
long can I keep the dressing
in place?
The
frequency of dressing changes
depends on the level of drainage
in the wound and whether the
wound is infected. You should
check the dressing at 24 hours
for an assessment. When checking
the dressing, pull it back
from the wound bed, and if
it has white
spots or has turned white
where it is in contact with
the wound,
it should be changed. If the
dressing is completely filled
with exudates, it should be
changed. If neither of these
two scenarios
have occurred, no dressing
change is required for up
to 72 hours
as long as moisture
is maintained within the dressing.
(back to
top) Is this
covered by Medicare and how
many dressings am I allotted
per month?
The
product is covered by Medicare.
Twelve (12) dressings per month;
however, the tunneling dressings
are covered
everyday.
(back
to top) What should I use as a cover
dressing?
We
have provided the cover
dressing chart for you to use
as a guide, however, the rule
is simply to keep Hydrofera
Blue moist. With dry wounds,
you want to use a semi-occlusive
dressing
over the top to help maintain
the moisture due to the VPTR.
Heavily exudating wounds can
use a cover dressing that will
help wick moisture away from
the Hydrofera Blue.
(back
to top) Do I have to moisten it before
I use it even if it is a heavily
exudating wound?
Yes,
you hydrate the product with
sterile saline or water
and wring it out before applying
it to the wound.
(back
to top) What makes this product bacteriostatic? The two organic dyes, methylene
blue and gentian violet. They
are both oxidizing agents and
have been used safely used in
medicine for over 50 years.
The combination provides you
with broad bacteriostatic protection
as one is effective against
gram positive organisms and
one against gram negative.
(back
to top) What happens if it dries
out? If the product dries out you
can simply hydrate the product
by adding sterile saline or
water to the pad. Allow it to
sit in place for 1 –2
minutes and then slowly remove
from wound bed. It should be
noted the product tends to dry
out in the corners first. You
can and should add moisture
to the product should it begin
to dry out.
(back
to top) Does it burn when you apply
it? No, the product has actually
been shown to help reduce pain
significantly within the first
24 –48 hours.
(back
to top) How does this compare to
silver? Hydrofera Blue has the same
bacteriostatic characteristics
as silver with a few added advantages.
Unlike silver, Hydrofera blue
does not have to be cut to size
as it is gentle on healthy tissue.
It significantly reduces pain
and edema, and it binds 100%
of all endotoxins within 4 hours.
(back
to top) Can I use this over bone
or tendons? Yes
(back
to top) Is the wound going to turn
blue? No, the two dyes are preferentially
bound to the PVA foam. You might
see a slight blue hue on the
new cell growth. This is not
harmful and will oxidize in
about 5 days.
(back
to top) Does this product kill bacteria? Our claim is the product is
bacteriostatic. The two dyes
have been known in medical literature
to kill bacteria and fungus.
The dyes were used before antibiotics
to treat ailments such as strep
throat and yeast infections.
(back
to top) Can I cut the Hydrofera Blue? Yes, it will not shred or fragment.
