How long can I keep the dressing in place?

The frequency of dressing changes depends on the level of drainage in the wound and whether the wound is infected. You should check the dressing at 24 hours for an assessment. When checking the dressing, pull it back from the wound bed, and if it has white spots or has turned white where it is in contact with the wound, it should be changed. If the dressing is completely filled with exudates, it should be changed. If neither of these two scenarios have occurred, no dressing change is required for up to 72 hours as long as moisture is maintained within the dressing.

What should I use as a cover dressing?

We have provided the cover dressing chart for you to use as a guide, however, the rule is simply to keep Hydrofera Blue moist. With dry wounds, you want to use a semi-occlusive dressing over the top to help maintain the moisture due to the VPTR. Heavily exudating wounds can use a cover dressing that will help wick moisture away from the Hydrofera Blue.
